Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have been together for more than two decades but that is not to say they never struggle in their marriage. The Hollywood #goals couple is proof enough that love can last in the industry.
But, as it turns out, Jada and Will were sick and tired of being that example for everyone, which is why they decided to be so open about their problems.
While a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the Red Table Talk co-host and actress explained why they publicized the ugly parts of their romance.
Jada told Colbert that ‘What was very important about Will and I doing that show episode together—two things. First of all, it was to kind of get rid of that idea that people who are in the public eye have perfect relationships. We were sick of living up to that. And, second of all, having myself and Will talk about our relationship—sometimes you see women do it all alone or you just see a guy do it.’
Jada mentioned just how important it was that Will talked about his own role in their issues as well.
‘Us coming together and taking for both of our parts and Will being the successful man that he is and being open to share what his pitfalls were in our relationship and in his family, you cannot imagine how many other successful men called in and said, ‘Wow, my wife’s been saying the same thing for years.’
As far as Jada is concerned, her husband’s willingness to talk about their problems helped these other men be more receptive to their partners’ complaints and be willing to address and fix their own issues.
Usually, Jada believes, successful men can be difficult to make understand they may not always know what they’re doing in a relationship, precisely because they are so successful in so many areas.
